Another suspect has been arrested in the murder case of wrestler Sagar Dhankad, in which 2-time Olympian Sushil Kumar and his associates were allegedly involved.

In the meantime, the Tihar authorities have decided to install a television in the common area of the ward where Kumar is lodged.

He will be allowed to watch the TV along with other inmates as he had placed a demand for it to watch sports, sources said.

According to DCP Sanjeev Yadav, the suspect has been identified as Surjit Grewal, a wrestler who had represented India at World Wrestling Championship in 2012, 2014 & 2018. He had a reward of Rs 50,000 on him.

Yadav said that “He had also participated in Pro Wrestling League & took part in the national championship in 2020".

Grewal was arrested by a Special Cell team led by ACP Jasbir Singh from his village Bamla in Haryana’s Bhiwani on Wednesday.

He came to Chhatarsal Stadium in 2012 & used to hang out with Kumar.

About the murder in the intervening night of May 4-5, Grewal told police that after thrashing Vikas, Arvind & Ravinder, Kumar had left the stadium, but returned with Prince Dalal & others. They then went to Shalimar Bagh & returned with Amit Khagad & Ravinder Bhinda.

On being thrashed allegedly by Kumar & his associates, the duo divulged locations of Sonu Mahal, Sagar Dhankar & Bhagat Singh. They were brought to the stadium & beaten up, Grewal said. Dhankhad, Khagad & Mahaal sustained severe injuries & Dhankhad died the next day.
