The recommendation comes at a time when the High Court continues to function below its sanctioned capacity, making judicial appointments a key development for the institution.
The recommendation was approved during a meeting of the Supreme Court Collegium held on June 2, 2026. As per the Collegium's resolution, Advocate Amit Lahoti has been proposed for appointment as a judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. The official statement records that the Collegium "has approved the proposal for appointment of Shri Amit Lahoti, Advocate as a Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh." The recommendation now moves to the next stage of the appointment process. At present, the High Court is functioning with 40 judges against a sanctioned strength of 53.
