On Thursday, an overseas Class 12 student approached the Supreme Court alleging that the CBSE has failed to declare his improvement examination result despite introducing a special assessment scheme for students affected by cancelled examinations in West Asian countries. The issue has gained urgency because the student claims that the delay in declaring his result has prevented him from completing his college admission process and may impact his academic future.

The dispute concerns a private candidate who appeared for the CBSE Class XII Improvement Examination, 2026, from Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia. He had registered for improvement examinations in five subjects and successfully appeared in Physics and Chemistry. However, CBSE later cancelled several examinations across West Asia due to war-related tensions and security concerns, including his Mathematics, English and Computer Science papers. Following the cancellations, CBSE issued an assessment scheme on March 27 for evaluating affected students.

The Petitioner claimed that although results were declared on May 13, his status continued to be reflected as "R.L. (Result Later)." According to the plea, despite multiple representations sent by him and his father, no response was received from the Board. The student further contended that he has been unable to complete admission formalities for a B.Tech programme because his Class 12 result has not been declared.

The Petitioner has argued before the Apex Court that withholding his result is arbitrary, unreasonable and discriminatory, particularly when an assessment scheme already exists for students whose examinations were cancelled. He has maintained that he stands on the same footing as other students affected by the cancellations and cannot be denied the benefit of the scheme merely because he appeared as a private candidate. Through the petition, he has sought directions to the Union Ministry of Education, CBSE and the CBSE Regional Officer, Dubai, to declare his result by applying the March 27 assessment scheme. In the alternative, he has requested that special examinations be conducted for the cancelled subjects.

The matter is now before the Apex Court for consideration.
