On Saturday, Justice N.V Ramana inaugurated the Conference Hall of Bihar State Legal Services Authority on digital platform, and delivered the address on the Role of Legal Services Authorities during the Pandemic.

After virtually inaugurating the  new Conference Hall of BSLSA, Hon'ble Mr. Justice NV Ramana congratulated the BSLSA and its officers for their reformist and innovative approach. He also underlined how NALSA is ensuring that justice system is accessible to all in these unprecedented times, and called attention to the potential of e-Lok Adalat in this regard. He also said that the pain of migrant labourers did not go unnoticed by the Legal Services Authorities.

Around 56 lakh migrants across India were helped through various interventions by LSAs. Appreciating the efforts of all stakeholders in the Legal Aid ecosystem, he acknowledged the Legal Service Authorities, panel lawyers, and PLVs in making justice accessible to all. His Lordship also said that Legal Services Authorities are leveraging the technology on various other fronts also.

Training programs are being organized through webinars. Social Media tools are being utilized. Through National as well as State Legal aid helpline numbers 6,26,275 people were provided legal information and advice. Legal aid and assistance is being provided to undertrials  and convicts.

Justice Navin Sinha, Judge, Supreme Court of India also appreciated the intervention of BSLSA in helping stranded migrant labourers and other marginalised sections of the society. He highlighted the importance of the role of Legal Services Authorities in meeting the unmet legal needs of people.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Karol, Chief Justice, High Court of Patna and Patron-in-Chief, BSLSA said that lakhs of beneficiaries in the state were not only provided Legal Aid, but also facilitated in accessing welfare measures and schemes by the Legal Services Institutions in Bihar.

He said, “The wheels of justice in Bihar never stopped - even during the pandemic”.

Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh, Judge, Patna High Court & Executive Chairman, BSLSA shed light on the role of Legal Services Authorities during the pandemic, underlining the work done by Bihar SLSA in particular. He acknowledged the contribution of Para Legal Volunteers in reaching out to the people in rural areas, providing crucial information related to the novel Coronavirus.
