On Thursday, the Central Government has accepted the resignation tendered by Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal, Judge of Delhi High Court with effect from May 30 as she is all set to take charge as the President of the Delhi State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission.

The Department of Justice in a notification issued stated:

"Smt. Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal has tendered her resignation from the office of Judge, Delhi High Court, in pursuance of proviso (a) to clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution, with effect from 30 May, 2020."

Justice Sehgal has joined the Delhi High Court as an Additional Judge back on Dec 15, 2014.

She then later became a Permanent Judge on June 2, 2016. Her tenure as Delhi HC Judge was to continue till June 20, 2020.

As she has to be the President of the DSCRC, she resigned from her designated post as HC Judge and will now join the Commission soon upon acceptance of the same by the Government.

It was in November 2019, the Union Cabinet had approved her appointment as a member of the Competition Commission of India.
