‘My Lords’ finally lorded over the Lawyers on the cricket field for the first time, changing the trend of Advocates defeating Judges in a game of cricket every year.

On Sunday, the Chief Justices XI crushed the Supreme Court Bar Association XI by a huge margin of 72 runs to register their maiden victory & establish their supremacy both on & off the court.

Every year, the Supreme Court Bar Association-XI had made it a habit to outgun the Chief Justice of India-XI. One of the main reasons behind the success of SCBA XI was its team members’ youth, agility & experience on the cricket field.

They enjoyed a distinct age advantage over the Supreme Court Judges. But, this year, the Supreme Court Judges had carefully planned & well in advance. It requisitioned the services of some young High Court Judges & the Supreme Court Judges provided the guile to fox the Advocate batsmen.

After Chief Justice of India, N V Ramana inaugurated the annual match by fending off a ball bowled by SCBA president Vikas Singh, the Judges batted first on winning the toss at the Modern School ground on Barakhamba Road.

With the help of healthy scores from N Anand Venkatesh(34), Ravindra Ghuge (26) and Raja Vijayaraghavan Valsala(40), the CJI XI posted an impressive 160 runs in the allotted twenty overs. But, none of the Supreme Court Judges in the playing XI could individually reach a double-digit score.

In reply, the vaunted SCBA XI batting line-up collapsed like nine pins & the entire team of reputed lawyers were bowled out for a paltry 88 in just 12.4 overs. Justice L N Rao was the wrecker-in-chief of the SCBA team as he claimed 3 wickets for 9 runs in 2 overs. Venkatesh too scalped 3 wickets for 13 runs in his 2 overs to expedite the collapse of the opposite side.
