Unlike the usual, a Mumbai-based woman lawyer is fighting for herself, & not for any client, to get justice after being cheated & ill-treated by her husband her in-laws. She has also accused the Punjab Police of not helping her.
A 28-year-old Mumbai-based lawyer has claimed she visited her husband's house after she found out that he was living in Ajnala in Punjab's Amritsar. The woman said that they got married in April 2018 & were living together in Mumbai, however, her husband, identified as Faisal, suddenly left her & went missing.
Her Husband, Faisal was living with his brother, who runs a tailoring shop, in Ajnala.
The women said that on reaching her husband's house, she was denied entry, while, his brother's wife also called the police & accused her of trespassing.
The Lawyer then told everything to the Police, but, they didn't listen & demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 instead.
She said that "I told the police everything but they did not listen & demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 if I wanted to avoid a criminal case which I refused to. A local journalist helped me get bail but I was kept in custody even after getting the bail as I did not have a copy of the bail order".
The woman lawyer, in a complaint to the director-general of Punjab Police, has alleged that Ajnala Police officials demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 from her & was charged under false cases when she refused".
She claimed that the cops didn't let her call her relatives & a lawyer. She was kept in detention without food.
The woman lawyer has now demanded action against the police officers posted at the Ajnala Police Station who, according to her, are 'very dangerous & cruel'.
Faisal's sister-in-law Safia, in a police complaint, has alleged that the lawyer entered their house without permission & threatened them.
The Victim said that "Despite a being a practising lawyer I became a victim of the corrupt system. I want action against the cops posted at the Ajanala Police Station. I have complained to the DGP, but no action has been assured to me. I will move the Punjab & Haryana High Court to get justice".
Ajanala Police officials, who have been accused of torture & ill-treatment by the woman lawyer, were not available for comment.
