The Calcutta High Court addressed an application filed by a petitioner alleging police inaction in the investigation of her husband's death. The petitioner, identified as the wife of a Congress party worker, claims victimization by leaders and workers of the ruling political party following the 2023 panchayat elections.

The petitioner's husband reportedly suffered severe injuries in an attack by private respondents linked to the ruling party, ultimately succumbing to the assault. The petitioner alleges improper investigation and a lack of arrests, with the accused freely roaming and pressuring her to withdraw the complaint, despite the Court's direction on October 9, 2023.

The advocates representing the respondents denied the allegations, asserting that some accused were granted anticipatory bail, while others received bail after arrest. Anticipatory bail applications for some co-accused are reportedly pending.

The State's advocate informed the Court that a thorough investigation is underway, with arrests made and a counter-case initiated. Mobile tower locations have been obtained, witness statements recorded under Section 164 of the IPC, and the police are closely monitoring local developments.

The Court acknowledged the police's efforts and directed the expeditious conclusion of the investigation while ensuring the safety of the victim's family. It ordered continued police vigilance in the area, maintaining a picket in front of the petitioner's house for three months to prevent any breach of peace.
