Lawyers at the Calcutta High Court have decided to withdraw their boycott of Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma's swearing-in ceremony, following an appeal from Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam urging unity and respect for the Court’s traditions.

Justice Sharma, recently transferred from the Delhi High Court, faced initial opposition from three major Bar bodies — the Bar Library Club, High Court Bar Association (HCBA), and the Incorporated Law Society — who questioned the transfer's propriety. On April 1, they had resolved to boycott his oath-taking.

However, after Chief Justice Sivagnanam appealed to their sense of tradition and unity, the HCBA convened an urgent meeting and unanimously decided to attend the ceremony. The Incorporated Law Society also withdrew its earlier letter but said its office-bearers would not attend. Meanwhile, the Bar Library Club reiterated its decision to skip the event, though it assured full cooperation with Justice Sharma in future judicial matters.

Justice Sharma’s transfer had earlier been approved by the Centre despite the Bar bodies raising concerns with the Chief Justice of India.

Today marked Justice Sharma’s final day at the Delhi High Court.
