The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of three judicial officers as judges of the Karnataka High Court, a move aimed at addressing the significant shortage in judicial strength and improving case disposal in one of the country’s busiest High Courts.
The recommendation was finalised during a Collegium meeting held on April 14, where the names of Rajeshwari Narayana Hegde, Kedambadi Ganesh Shanthi, and Mahadevappa Brungesh were approved for appointment to the Bench. The decision comes against the backdrop of a notable vacancy position, with the High Court currently functioning with only 45 judges against a sanctioned strength of 62, raising concerns over mounting pendency and judicial workload.
