Ministry of Law & Justice informed Rajya Sabha that there are 2013081 registered lawyers in various courts in the country.
The State having most registered lawyers are as follows:
- Uttar Pradesh – 400016 Lawyers
- Maharashtra & Goa – 191394 Lawyers
- Delhi – 149655 Lawyers
The Ministry replied to unstarred questions regarding the total number of registered lawyers in various courts in the country, court and State-wise.
The Law Minister further mentioned that there is a proposal to increase the judge strength of High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh from 17 to 25 judges.
