On Friday, Bengaluru Police arrested a woman advocate and her live-in partner in connection with the alleged murder of her five-year-old daughter, a case that has raised disturbing questions about the circumstances leading to the child's death. The arrests came months after the girl was found dead and days after a criminal case was registered on the complaint of her father. Investigators are now examining multiple aspects of the case, including whether the mother's alleged dissatisfaction with the child's complexion played any role in the suspected motive behind the crime.

The case centres on the death of the five-year-old girl, who was found dead on March 25. According to the complaint lodged by the child's father, suspicions arose after the mother allegedly provided differing accounts of how the child died. Initially, she reportedly stated that the girl had eaten biryani on the night before her death and was found dead the following morning. Later, however, she allegedly claimed that the child had been left asleep inside an air-conditioned car while she and her live-in partner celebrated her birthday at a café, and that the girl was discovered dead after being taken home. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case on June 4. Authorities alleged that after the case was lodged, the woman left Bengaluru, travelled to Mysuru and later moved to Sakleshpur, where she was eventually apprehended from a homestay.

According to the police, the woman's live-in partner has emerged as the prime accused in the investigation and is alleged to have confessed to killing the child by assaulting and smothering her inside a vehicle. Investigators are continuing to question both accused persons to determine the exact sequence of events and establish the motive behind the alleged offence. The police are also examining reports suggesting that the mother may have been unhappy with the child's complexion and are probing whether this factor had any connection with the alleged crime. Following their arrest, both accused were taken into custody as the investigation proceeds.
