Minister of Law and Justice, and Minority Welfare N.Md. Farooq instructed G. Pratibha Devi, who took charge as Secretary (Legal, Legislative Affairs and Justice) on December 4, 2024 (Wednesday), to speed up the process of establishment of the High Court Bench in Kurnool.

Mr. Farooq said the State government had promised to have the HC Bench established in Kurnool in the run-up to the general elections and duly set in motion the process thereof by having resolutions to that effect passed in the Legislative Assembly and Council.

The Minister told Ms. Pratibha Devi to come up with a detailed action plan for implementing it at the earliest.

The previous government had declared Kurnool as the ‘judicial capital’ with much hype but never took necessary action, Mr. Farooq said, while asserting that the people of Rayalaseema would have easier access to legal services with the establishment of the Bench.

Mr. Farooq also discussed the reorganisation of the Waqf Board in the State and other issues related to the department with Ms. Pratibha Devi and  Minority Welfare Commissioner Ch. Sridhar.
