1. The petitioner through instant petition under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India is seeking direction to respondents to re-issue him passport.

2. The petitioner was issued passport on 10.08.2011 which expired on 09.08.2021. He, in December' 2012, solemnized marriage with Reena Rani as per sikh rites. He left for Italy in January' 2013. His wife lodged FIR No. 151 dated 06.12.2014, under Sections 498-A and 406 of IPC against him and his parents at Police Station Rahon, District SBS Nagar. The trial court vide judgment dated 06.03.2019 acquitted his parents and appeal against judgment of acquittal stands dismissed. The petitioner was declared proclaimed offender. On the basis of Emergency Travel Certificate (Annexure P-7), he came to India and joined proceedings. He has applied for re-issuance of passport because he has to leave for Italy.

4. Ms. Shweta Nahata, Senior Panel Counsel for Union of India and Mr. Aman Dhir, DAG, Punjab, who on advance notice are present in Court, accept notice and waive service.

5. Mr. Aman Dhir, DAG, Punjab submits that as per his instructions, police after competing investigation has filed its report on 02.05.2024 and next date before trial court is 15.05.2024. No other case is pending against the petitioner.

6. Ms. Shweta Nahata, Advocate submits that passport authority, in the wake of statement of State counsel, would process application of the petitioner and pass an appropriate order within eight weeks from today.

7. Counsel for the petitioner agrees to the aforesaid arrangement.

8. In the wake of statement of both sides, the petition stands disposed of.
