1. The prayer in the present Civil Writ Petition filed under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India, is to issue a writ in the nature of mandamus, for directing the respondents to appoint the petitioner on the Class IV post.

2. Learned counsel would submit that the father of the petitioner, who was working as Lab Attendant, unfortunately passed away on 24.08.2022 and he had applied for appointment on compassionate basis vide application dated 10.10.2022, Annexure P-2, which has been recommended by the Committee on 26.12.2022, Annexure P-3. Thereafter, there has been correspondence between the College and the Directorate of Research and Medical Education, Punjab, dated 05.06.2023, Annexure P-7 and 19.01.2024, Annexure P-15, but no final decision has been taken. Learned counsel submits that the petitioner would file a representation within 4 weeks, which may be directed to be decided in a time bound manner by granting him an opportunity of hearing.

4. At the asking of the Court, Mr. Manipal Singh Atwal, DAG, Punjab accepts notice on behalf of the respondent-State and has no objection to the limited prayer made.

5. In view of the aforesaid and without commenting upon the merits of the case, this petition is hereby disposed of with a direction that in case the petitioner submits a representation within a period of 4 weeks, the same shall be decided expeditiously, preferably within six months, by respondent No.2 and if found entitled, necessary benefit be granted to him forthwith. However, in the eventuality of the relief being denied, a speaking order be passed, after associating petitioner therewith.
