1. The present petition has been filed under Articles 226/227 of the Constitution of India for issuance of a writ in the nature of mandamus directing respondent Nos.1 to 5 to protect the life and liberty of the petitioners at the hands of respondent Nos.6 to 11.

2. Learned counsel for the petitioners submits that petitioner No.1 is wife of respondent No.8, who is settled abroad, however, respondent Nos.6 and 7, who are the sisters of respondent No.8 have forcibly taken away her children and are threatening her of dire consequences. It is further submitted that petitioner No.1 was thrown out of the matrimonial house and petitioner No.2, being a friend, has supported her due to which parents of petitioner No.2 are also being harassed by respondent Nos.6 to 11, in connivance with the police officials.

After hearing learned counsel for the petitioners, although there is no cogent evidence to substantiate the averments made by the petitioners, however, without commenting on the merits of the case, respondent No.2---Senior Superintendent of Police, District Kapurthala, Punjab, is directed to look into the representation dated 26.06.2023 (Annexure P-3), and after assessing the threat perception, take appropriate action, in accordance with law and it is expected that life and liberty of every citizen shall be protected by the State.
