About IIFT

IIFT is a premier institution of education, training and research in the area of International Business set up by Department of Commerce, Government of India. The Centre for Research on International Trade (CRIT) which is a part of IIFT has two Centres under it with the Centre for WTO Studies being one of them.

The Centre for WTO Studies (CWS) was established at the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in November 2002. The Centre is an independent think-tank conducting research and training programmes on the WTO and related matters. The Centre also regularly supporting the Government of India in international trade negotiations, disputes and policy matters.

About the Position

The Centre for WTO Studies intends to engage 10 (ten) Researchers at the level of Young Professional (With experience)/(without Experience), Associate and Consultant (with Ph.D)/(without Ph.D)  the field of Economics and Legal to work on issues related to WTO and international trade. The Centre engages purely on contractual basis initially for a period of one year which can be extended after review of performance and requirement of the Centre.

Eligibility

  1. Consultant (with PhD)/Consultant (without Ph.D.)
    • Must not be more than 50 years of age at the time of the recruitment.
    • Must hold a master’s degree in the areas such as economics, law, international law, public policy, data science, cost accounting or a related discipline. Consistently good academic record with at least 55% (or an equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) at bachelor’s and master’s levels.
    • Must have a minimum of 8 years post-qualification experience, out of which a minimum of 3 years must be in the relevant field, for example, international trade and allied field.
    • Relevant work experience or research and studies produced in international trade, economics, economic diplomacy, international law, investment, Public policy or in a related discipline is desirable.
    • Candidates with a PhD will be considered for Consultant (with PhD).
    • Candidates without a PhD will be considered for Consultant (without PhD).
  2. Associate
    • Must not be more than 45 years of age at the time of recruitment.
    • Must hold a master’s degree in the areas such as economics, law, international Law, public policy or a related discipline. Consistently good academic record with at least 55% (or an equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) at bachelor’s and master’s levels.
    • Must have a minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience, out of which a minimum of 1 year must be in the relevant field, for example, international trade and allied field.
    • Relevant work experience or research and studies produced in international trade, economics, economic diplomacy, international law, investment, public policy or in a related discipline is desirable.
  3. Young Professional (with one year Experience)
    • Must not be more than 35 years of age at the time of recruitment.
    • Must hold a master’s degree in the areas such as economics, law, international Law, public policy or a related discipline. Consistently good academic record with at least 55% (or an equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) at bachelor’s and master’s levels.
    • Must have a minimum of 1-year post-qualification experience.
    • Relevant work experience or research and studies produced in international trade, international law, investment, public policy, or a related discipline is desirable.
  4. Young Professional (without experience)
    • Must not be more than 28 years of age at the time of recruitment.
    • Must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB.) or a Masters’ degree in economics, diplomacy, international relations, public policy or a related discipline from (a) a University listed in the top 25 ranks of the latest National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), or (b) from a reputed University or a discipline within a University listed in the top 100 ranks of a recognized World University Ranking, for example, the latest QS World University Ranking or the Times Higher Education Ranking.

Other Skills: The candidates should have sound knowledge of computer application and packages [M.S. Word, M.S. Outlook, Excel, Power Point]. The candidate should have good command over English (spoken as well as written) and should have experience of research activities.

Salary

  1. Consultant: Rs. 1,45,000-2,65,000 for PhD candidates and Rs. 1,37,500-2,65,000 for without PhD candidates).
  2. Associate: Rs. 80,000-1,45,000 per month.
  3. Young Professional: Rs. 60,000 per month (with experience) & Rs. 50,000 per month (for without experience).

Tenure

The appointment will be purely on contractual basis for a period of one year with a possibility of further extension based on the performance.

Emoluments

The Researchers shall be paid consolidated competitive monthly emoluments depending upon their qualification and experience as per the order of Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry. Government of India.

It may be noted that candidates applying for the post of Consultant based on their qualification and experience are not automatically eligible to be engaged as a Consultant.

Their performance during the interview, in-depth knowledge, aspects of WTO and experience in a reputed organization shall be the deciding factors.

  • The number of posts advertised is indicative, the Centre/lIFT reserved the right to not fill up the posts and may increase or decrease the number of post at any point of time
