About the Organisation

Established in 2010, the Law Department at Aligarh Muslim University Centre, Murshidabad, has emerged as a distinguished institution for legal education in West Bengal. Accredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC, the department operates under the esteemed guidance of the AMU (Amendment) Act of 1981 and the University Act, ensuring a strong academic foundation.

The department offers a rigorous curriculum that seamlessly integrates theoretical insights with practical applications, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and ethical principles necessary for success in the legal profession. Among its academic offerings is the prestigious five-year integrated BA LLB program, which is duly inspected and approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI).

About the Competition

The Legal Opinion Competition, organized by the Law Society, AMUCM, provides an invaluable platform for law students to engage in rigorous legal discourse. This competition encourages intellectual dialogue while fostering critical thinking and analytical skills essential for aspiring legal professionals.

By participating, students have the opportunity to apply theoretical legal knowledge to practical scenarios, refining their ability to formulate well-reasoned legal opinions. The competition also serves as a forum for students to advocate for clients’ rights and address prevailing legal disparities, reinforcing their commitment to justice and equity.

In today’s dynamic legal landscape, the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex legal challenges is paramount. The Legal Opinion Competition plays a crucial role in shaping the next generation of legal practitioners by promoting legal excellence, advocacy, and social responsibility.

Through this competition, students not only sharpen their legal acumen but also contribute meaningfully to the advancement of justice and the rule of law.

Prizes

  • 1st PRIZE: Rs. 2,000
  • 2nd PRIZE: Rs. 1,200
  • 3rd PRIZE: Rs. 800
  • Each participant will get an e-certificate of participation

The team may consist of a minimum of 1 member and a maximum of 2 members

Registration

  • The final registration deadline for the competition is March 25, 2025.
  • There is a registration fee of rupees 30/- for each team. The QR code for registration has been provided.
  • For the sake of registration, the registration amount shall be deposited in the below-mentioned account

Legal Problem

  • The problem will be released on March 27, 2025, and participants are required to submit their solutions till March 29, 2025, 11:59 pm.
  • Papers submitted after this timeframe will not be accepted.
  • Participants are permitted to consult bare acts, reference books and authentic sources.
  • However, any paper Found to have more than 20% plagiarism will be rejected.

General Rules

  • Participants are required to submit the soft copy of the Legal Opinion in PDF format to lawsocietyamucm@gmail.com.
  • The subject line should read “Submission-Legal Opinion Drafting Competition 2025
  • (Name of Participant 1)-(Name of Participant 2)
  • Results are expected to be announced in the second week of April (tentative)
  • All participants will be issued a certificate of participation.
  • Entries submitted after the deadline will be automatically disqualified.
  • Any submissions found to be plagiarized will also be disqualified.

Judging Criteria

Each opinion shall be evaluated on a scale of 100 points by an evaluator, with the following criteria

  • Knowledge of Law and Facts-25 points
  • Proper and Articulate Analysis-25 points
  • Extent and Use of Research-20 pointa
  • Clarity and Organization 20 points
  • Grammar and Style-10 points

Format of the Submission

  • The language for the competition will be strictly English.
  • The font used must be Times New Roman, size 12, with line spacing set at 1.5, and one-inch.
  • Margins on each side
  • Footnotes should be in Times New Roman, size 10, with single line spacing.
  • Page numbers should be placed at the bottom of each page.
  • The length of the opinion should not exceed 2500 words.
  • The cover page of the submission should include the names of the authors, their designations (year of study), and the name of their institution.
