August 13,2017;
Do you want JNU to behave like a military college, or an Academic Institution.
These past few weeks have been particularly traumatic for the seditious citizens of this great country, for we have been administered, not one, but two booster doses of nationalism.
First was at the JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University), Delhi, where a day (Kargil or Vijay Diwas) which should have belonged to our uniformed heroes was hijacked to serve a political ideology.
Function, presided over by the two Union Ministers and a Supine Vice Chancellor, which was meant to remember those who sacrificed their lives for country 18 years ago, was somehow distorted into a clarion call for the nationalism.
This was further embodied in menacing silhouette of a battle tank, which shall now be installed on campus to inculcate in students spirit of “nationalism.”
To associate, or equate, a weapon of war with the nationalism or the patriotism goes far beyond jingoism which has been calling card of this particular VC.
The Battle tank is a symbol of power of State, of destruction and the compulsive obedience, whereas the University is precise antithesis of these concepts.
University is supposed to promote power of intellect and of the non-violent didactics, to create the new ideas and extend frontiers of the knowledge, to nurture the freedom of thought, speech and inquiry and to question, not comply.
Therefore, JNU tank is nothing but a well-crafted strategy to send a not-so-subtle message to students and faculty of this institution which has been consistently ranked number one in country: Behave like a military college, or else.
Second Antibiotic dose of the nationalism was administered, by the Madras HC.
By now adept at rushing in where angels, and even founding fathers of our Constitution were loath to go, Court had earlier this year ordered State Govt. to waive off all the farm loans! Fortunately, Supreme Court has stayed this order.
