In exercise of the powers conferred by section 10 of the Bombay Anatomy Act, 1949 (Bombay XI of 1949), the Government of Bombay is pleased to make the following rules:-

The near relative of the deceased person shall claim the body within two days of the date of death of the deceased person excluding the day on which the death takes place:

Provided that, if in the opinion of the authority charge of the hospital or prison, there are good and sufficient reasons for believing that the dead body is likely to be claimed by a near relative of the deceased person, it may keep dead body in its possession for further period of two days.

If any of the approved institutions does not require the dead body for the anatomical examination or dissection, the authorised officer of the place shall dispose of the dead body or cause it to be disposed of by cremation, burial or any other recognised method of disposal of dead bodies in accordance with the custom of the community to which the deceased person belonged :

Provided that, if the identity of the deceased person is not known or there are no facilities for disposal of his or her body in accordance with the custom of his or her community, the authorised officer may dispose of the dead body in such manner as he deemed fit.

Where on unclaimed body is handed over to the authorities in charge of an approved institution under section 5 for the purpose of conducting anatomical examination and dissection, the authorities in charge of such institution shall, after use of the body for the said purpose, arrange to dispose of the body or its remnants in such manner as they deem fit.

G., Part IV-B, p. 1310).- In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (4) of section 1 of the Bombay Anatomy Act, 1949 (Bombay XI of 1949), the Government of Bombay is pleased to direct that the provisions of sections 2 to 10 (both inclusive) of the said Act shall come into force in the areas stated below with effect from 1st July, 1950.

(1) Greater Bombay (i.e. all the areas under the jurisdiction of the Bombay Municipal Corporation).

(2) City of Pune and Pune Cantonment (i.e. all the areas falling within the jurisdiction of the Pune Municipal Corporation and the Pune Cantonment).

(5) Ahmednagar (i.e. the areas falling within the jurisdiction of the Ahmednagar Municipality).

Anatomy Act, 1949 (Bombay XI of 1949), the Government of Bombay is pleased to authorize the officers specified in column 1 of the Schedule appended.

A police officer not below the rank of a Police Inspector or the local Coroner where such appointment exists.		For the area under the jurisdiction of the Police Inspector or the Coroner, as the case may be, within the municipal limits of the places mentioned below :-
	(1)	Greater Bombay (i.e. the whole area to which the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation extends).
	(2)	City of Poona and Poona Cantonment (i.e. the whole area to which the jurisdiction of the Poona Municipal Corporation and Poona Cantonment extends).
	[(3)	Nashik, that is, the whole Area to which the jurisdiction of the Nasik Municipal Council extends.]
	(4)	Satara (i.e. the whole area to which the jurisdiction of the Satara Municipality extends).
	(5)	Ahmednagar (i.e. the whole area to which the jurisdiction of the Ahmednagar Municipality extends).

G., Part IV-B, p. 1440).- In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Bombay Anatomy Act, 1949 (Bombay XI of 1949), the Government of Bombay is pleased to appoint the Resident Magistrate or, where there is no Resident Magistrate, a First Class Magistrate, as the officer to whom any matter referred to in the said section and arising within his jurisdiction shall be referred.
N., U. D. & P. H. D., No., BAA. 1161-(a)-Q, dated 18th October, 1961 (M. G., Part IV-B, p. 996).- In exercise of the powers conferred by section 4 of the Bombay Anatomy Act, 1949 (Bombay XI of 1949), read with sections 2 and 3 of the Bombay Anatomy (Extension and Amendment) Act, 1959 (Bombay XLIV of 1959), the Government of Maharashtra hereby authorises, for the areas comprised within the limits of the Municipal Corporation of the City of Nagpur and the municipalities of Yeotmal, Akola, Chanda, Amravati, Khamgaon and Wardha, the District Superintendents of Police, Nagpur, Yeotmal, Akola, Chanda, Amravati under section 5 of that Act and who shall be competent to act under that section.
