February,8,2016: A Transgender woman has quietly become the first to be appointed as a leading judge in the High Court.

Dr Victoria McCloud has been appointed as the most senior out trans pubic figure as a Master in the High Court, reports the Mail on Sunday.

Dr McCloud is also the youngest ever Master in the High Court, at age 46, and is the second only female Master, having been appointed in 2010.

She has presided over several high profile cases, which have involved Russell Brand and Katie Price.

Master McCloud lives in London with her civil partner, who is also out as transgender, Dr Annie McCloud. Her partner is an NHS psychiatrist.

The Queen’s Bench Master was congratulated by trans support group TG Pals, based in Kent.

Heather Ashton, the group’s spokesperson said she had “courage”, going on: “Transgender people were objects of ridicule in the past – they were afraid to come out publicly at all about who they were.

“This is another person being courageous enough to say we’re here, we’re in all walks of life.”

Master McCloud studied at Christ Church College, Oxford, having graduated with a psychology degree and doctorate.

She later completed a law conversion, and in 1995 was called to the bar.

Master McCloud specialised in civil and family law when she practiced at barristers’ chambers, and later wrote a series of legal handbooks.

A spokesman for the judiciary said courts in Britain have an “increasingly” diverse make up, and said: “judges come from all walks of life reflecting society in general”.

Master McLoud has not spoken publicly about her trans status, but has written a letter to the Royal College of Psychiatry journal on transitioning.
