They allegedly permitted illegal mining of iron ore in Bellary district.

On Wednesday, the Apex Court asked the Karnataka police to conduct probe against Karnataka’s 2 former CMs – N Dharam Singh & H D Kumaraswamy – for their alleged involvement in permitting illegal mining of iron ore in the Bellary district.

A bench comprising Justice P C Ghose & Justice R F Nariman asked the Special Investigation Team of Karnataka police to file a report within 3 months & restrained all the other courts, including the HC, from passing any order in this case.

The SC passed this order on a plea of 1 of the complainants, T J Abraham, who alleged that the former Chief Ministers connived with a no. of bureaucrats in granting permission to various companies to carry out the mining activities on forest land.

Agreeing with his plea, the SC bench said there’s “no action” taken on the reports of Lokayukta & probe should be done to find out the authenticity of these allegations.

However, another former chief minister S M Krishna, who has recently joined BJP, got relief as the apex court said that the investigation against him shall remain stayed till further orders on grounds that the then Lokayukta had not found any evidence against him.
