Supreme Court orders immediate arrest & Six months Jail to Justice CS Karnan for Contempt of Court


Ironically Justice CS Karnan became the first sitting Judge of any High Court to be convicted of contempt and sent to Jail.

Supreme Court of India has found Calcutta High Court’s Justice CS Karnan guilty of contempt today and has directed that he be immediately be arrested and sent to jail for six months.

J. Karnan, 59, has become the first sitting HC judge to be convicted of contempt and sent to prison.

This unprecedented decision was arrived at by a seven-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India JS Khehar.

J. Karnan, a Dalit, had recently accused CJI Khehar and seven other SC judges of discrimination and corruption.

Yesterday, J. Karnan had on his own passed an order convicting the CJI Khehar and six other judges to five years in jail under the SC/ST (POA) Act.

    Justice Karnan being from SC category it is advisable not to be harsh to.him whether he is right or wrong in his stand. SC bench may show lenience to suspend the sentence of six months jail pending decision by Parliament on a reference being made to.it.

  3. The whole story arose on account of mudslinging on one another. It became a time pass for citizens and they were curious to know between top judges what will happen next. The act of a Judge of High court was uncalled for. He could have desecently agreed for a impeachment rather casting aspersions on SC Judges.

  4. It is disgusting that when number of cases are pending for disposal , this case was heard with umost importance only to satisfy their Ego which has noplace in delivery of Justice .
