President Mukherjee has lately signed the NEET Ordinance amid high drama.

The Union Cabinet had cleared it on May 20. It is primarily aimed to “partly” overrule the Supreme Court judgment, which laid that NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) would cover all the government colleges, deemed universities and private medical colleges

Now in the NEET scheduled on July 24, 2016 the students of State government boards need not appear. However, from the next academic session they will have to become part of the uniform entrance exam.

Before signing the Ordinance the President had asked Health Ministry to clarify a few points before he left for China on Tuesday.

NEET  was opposed by more than 15 States. They had raised pertinent issues of difference in syllabus and languag.

In the first phase of NEET held on May 1, 2016 around 6.5 lakh students have already appeared.

NEET exam will apply to both Central government and private medical colleges.

NEET would cover PG courses, from 2017-18 session.
