THE ALIGARH MUSLIM UNIVERSITY (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1972 ACT NO. 34 OF 1972 [15th June, 1972.] An Act further to amend the Aligarh Muslim University Act, 1920. BE it enacted by Parliament in the Twenty-third Year of the Republic of India as follows:— 1. Short title and commencement.—(1) This Act may be called the Aligarh Muslim University (Amendment) Act, 1972. (2) It shall come into force on such date1 as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint. 2 * * * * * 33. Transitional provisions.—(1) Every authority of the University shall, as soon as may be, after the commencement of this Act, be constituted in accordance with the provisions of the principal Act as amended by this Act and of the Statutes set out in the Schedule and until any such authority is constituted, the authority functioning immediately before such commencement, shall continue to exercise all the powers and perform all the duties under the principal Act, so amended. (2) The Vice-Chancellor, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, the Treasurer and the Registrar, holding office immediately before the commencement of this Act shall, on and from such commencement, hold their respective offices by the same tenure and upon the same terms and conditions as they held it immediately before such commencement. (3) The Chancellor, and the Deans of Faculties shall, as soon as may be, after the commencement of this Act, be appointed in accordance with the provisions of the principal Act as amended by this Act and of the Statutes set out in the Schedule and the person holding any such office immediately before such commencement shall continue to hold that office until his successor enters upon his office. 34. Power of Visitor to make appointments in certain cases.—If any difficulty arises with respect to the establishment of any authority of the University or in connection with the first meeting of any authority of the University, the Visitor may, in consultation with the Vice-Chancellor, by order, make any appointment or do anything which appears to him necessary or expedient for the proper establishment of any authority of the University or for the first meeting of any authority of the University. 35. Saving.—Anything done, any action taken or any degree or other academic distinction conferred by the University before the commencement of this Act shall, notwithstanding any change made by this Act in the constitution of the Court, Executive Council, Academic Council, or any other authority of the University, be valid as if such thing were done, action were taken or degree or other academic distinction were conferred under the provisions of the principal Act as amended by this Act.
