G.S.R. 836(E). - In exercise of the powers conferred by clauses (d) and (e) of sub-section (2) of section 24 of the Coinage Act, 2011(11 of 2011), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules, namely: -

  1. Short title and commencement.- (1) These rules may be called the Coinage (Issue of Commemorative Coins on the Occasion of Birth Centenary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya) Rules, 2016.

(2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

  1. Denomination of coins.- The coins of the following denominations shall also be coined at the Mint for issue under the authority of the Central Government to commemorate the occasion of "Birth Centenary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya", namely:-

(i) One Hundred Rupees; and

(ii) Five Rupees.

  1. Dimension, composition of coins.- The coins of the denominations mentioned in rule 2 shall conform to the following dimensions and composition, namely : -

  1. Design.- The design of the coins shall be as specified in the First Schedule appended to these rules.
  2. Standard weight and remedy allowed.- The standard weight of the coins of the following denominations, and the remedy allowed in making of such coins shall be as specified in the Second Schedule appended to these rules.

The First Schedule

(I) One Hundred Rupees

Obverse:

The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with the legend "lR;eso t;rs" inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word "Hkkjr" in Devanagari script and on the right periphery flanked with the word "INDIA" in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol "L" and denominational value "100" in the International Numerals below the Lion Capitol.

Reverse:

The face of coin shall bear the portrait of "PANDIT DEENDAYAL UPADHYAYA"in the centre. The inscription "ifMr nhun;ky mik/kk; dh tUe'krh" in Devanagari script and "BIRTH CENTENARY OF PANDIT DEENDAYAL UPADHYAYA" in English shall be written on the top and bottom periphery respectively on the face of the coin. The year's figure "1916-2016" shall be written below the portrait of "PANDIT DEENDAYAL UPADHYAYA".

(II) Five Rupees

Obverse:

The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with the legend "lR;eso t;rs"inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word "Hkkjr" in Devanagari script and on the right periphery flanked with the word "INDIA" in English. It shall also bear the Rupee symbol "L " and denominational value "5" in the International Numerals below the Lion Capitol.

Reverse:

The face of coin shall bear the portrait of "PANDIT DEENDAYAL UPADHYAYA" in the centre. The inscription "ifMr nhun;ky mik/kk; dh tUe'krh" in Devanagari script and "BIRTH CENTENARY OF PANDIT DEENDAYAL UPADHYAYA" in English shall be written on the top and bottom periphery respectively on this face of the coin.The year's figure "1916-2016" shall be written below the portrait of "PANDIT DEENDAYAL UPADHYAYA".

Five Rupees 6 Grams 1/100th plus or minus for Copper and Zinc, that is to say Copper could vary from 74 per cent to 76 per cent and Zinc from 19 per cent to 21 per cent and 1/200thplus or minus for Nickel that is to say Nickel could vary from 4.5 per cent to 5.5 per cent. 1/40thplus or minus, that is to say, the weight could vary from 5.85 grams to 6.15 grams.
