Appointing persons for examining qualifications of persons desirous of obtaining certificates of competency under the Act

S.O.3138, dated 17th December, 1960. - In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) Section 79 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958 (44 of 1958), the Central Government hereby appoints with effect from the 1st January, 1961 the persons specified in the first column of the annexed Schedule for tire purpose of examining the qualifications of persons who are desirous of obtaining certificates of competency under Section 78 of the said Act and who are specified in the corresponding entries in the second column of the said Schedule.

Grade of certificates of competency

1. All persons appointed as Nautical Surveyors in the Mercantile Marine Departments and the Directorate. General of Shipping, Bombay, including those promoted as Principal Officers, Mercantile Marine Department and Deputy Nautical Adviser and Nautical Adviser to the Government of Indian in the Directorate General of Shipping, Bombay.

Master of a foreign-going ship;

First mate of a foreign going ship second mate o a foreign-going Ship;

Master of a home-trade ship;

Mate of a home-trade ship Skipper of a fishing vessel; Second hand of a fishing vessel,

2. All persons appointed as Engineers and Ship Surveyors in the Mercantile Marine Department and the Directorate General of Shipping, Bombay, including those promoted as Principal Officers, Mercantile Marine Department and Deputy Chief Surveyor and Chief Surveyor with Government of India in the Directorate General of Shipping, Bombay.

First class engineer;

Second class engineer;

Engine driver of a sea-going ship;

Engineer of a fishing vessel

Engine driver of a fishing vessel.
