In exercise of the powers conferred by section 46 read with section 39 of the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999 (42 of 1999), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules to govern the procedure of authentication of documents, namely:—

  1. Short title .—(1) These rules may be called The Foreign Exchange (Authentication of Documents) Rules, 2000.

(2) They shall come into force on 1st day of June, 2000.

  1. Authority for authentication and the manner of authentication of documents .—Any document received from any place outside India purporting to have affixed, impressed or submitted thereon or thereto the seal and signature of any person who is authorised by section 3 of the Diplomatic and Consular Officer (Oaths and Fees) Act, 1948 (41 of 1948) to do any notarial acts shall be deemed duly authenticated for the purpose of section 39 of the Act.
