In exercise of the powers conferred under clause (ii) of section 66 and section 76 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (61 of 1985), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules, namely:—

  1. Short title and commencement .—(i) These rules may be called The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Authentication of Documents) Rules, 1992.

(ii) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

  1. Authority for authentication and the manner of authentication of documents .—Any document, received from any place outside India in the course of investigation of any offence under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (61 of 1985), purporting to have affixed, impressed or subscribed thereon or thereto the seal and signature of any person who is authorised by section 3 of the Diplomatic and Consular Officers (Oath and Fees) Act, 1948 (41 of 1948), to do any notorial act, shall be deemed to be duly authenticated for the purposes of clause (ii) of section 66 of the First Mentioned Act.
