G.S.R. 897(E). - In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 21, read with Section 7 of the Coinage Act, 1906 (3 of 1906), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules, namely :-

  1. Short title and commencement.- (i) These rules may be called the Coinage of the One Hundred Rupees and Two Rupees coined to commemorate the occasion of "Birth Bi-Centenary of Louis Braille (1809-2009)" Rules, 2008.

(ii) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

  1. Standard weight and remedy allowed.- Standard Weight and Remedy allowed on coins of One Hundred Rupees and Two Rupees denominations coined under the provisions of Section 6 of the Act, to commemorate the occasion of Birth Bi-Centenary of Louis Braille and the remedy allowed in making of such coins shall be as specified in the Table below :-

One Hundred Rupees 35 Grams 1/500th plus or minus for Silver, that is to say, the Silver content may vary from 498 to 502 per 1000. 1/100th plus or minus, that is to say, the weight could vary from 34.65 grams to 35.5 grams.
Two Rupees 5.62 Grams 1/100th plus or minus for Chromium, that is to say, Chromium could vary from 16% to 18%. 1/25th plus or minus, that is to say, the weight could vary from 5.39 grams to 6.24 grams.
