Received the assent of the President on the 15th July, 1956, and was first published in the Punjab Government Gazette Extraordinary dated the 14th July, 1956.

An Act to amend the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, in its application to the State of Punjab.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Punjab in the Seventh Year of the Republic of India as follows :-

  1. Short title and commencement.- (1) This Act may called the Land Acquisition (Punjab Amendment) Act, 1956.

(2) It shall come into force at once

Statement of Objects and Reasons. - The Bill is designed to amend the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, with a view to eliminating delays that occur in the acquisition of land under the existing provisions, so that the Housing Schemes sponsored by Government are executed quickly.

Published vide Punjab Government Gazette Extraordinary, dated the 22nd March, 1956.

  1. Amendment of section 17 of Act 1 of 1894.- In clause (b) of sub-section (1) of section 17 of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, as amended by Punjab Act II of 1954, after the words "labour colonies" the words "or houses for any other class of people" shall be inserted.
