An act to amend the Bengal, Agra and Assam Civil Courts Act, 1887 in its application to the State of Bihar.
Be it enacted by the legislature of the State of Bihar in the thirty-eighth year of the Republic of India as follows:-
- Short title, extent and commencement.- (1) This Act may be called the Bengal, Agra and Assam Civil Courts (Bihar Amendment) Act, 1987.
(2) It extends to the whole of the State of Bihar.
(3) It shall come into force at once.
- Amendment of Section 19 of Act 12 of 1887.- In Section 19 of the Bengal, Agra and Assam Civil Courts Act, 1887 (Act 12 of 1887) (hereinafter referred to as the said Act).
(i) in sub-section (1) for the words "two thousand"" the words "twenty thousand" shall be substituted;
(ii) in sub-section (2) for the words "five thousand" the words "thirty thousand" shall be substituted.
- Amendment of Section 21 of Act 12 of 1887.- In section (a) of sub-section (1) of Section 21 of the said Act of the words "ten thousand" the words "sixty thousand" shall be substituted.
- Repeal and saving.- (1) The Bengal, Agra and Assam Civil Courts (Bihar Amendment) Ordinance, 1987 (Bihar Ordinance No. 15 of 1987) is hereby repealed.
(2) Notwithstanding such repeal, any thing done or any action taken in exercise of any power conferred by or under the said Ordinance shall be deemed to have been done or taken in exercise of the powers conferred by or under this Act, as if this Act were in force on the date on which such thing was done or action taken.
