PREAMBLE

An Act further to amend the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis Act, 1993.

Be it enacted by Parliament in the Fifty-second Year of the Republic of India as follows:-

Section -1 Short title

This Act may be called the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (Amendment) Act, 2001.

Section -2 Amendment of Section 1

In the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis Act, 1993 (64 of 1993) (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), in section 1, in Sub-section (4), for the figures, letters and words "31st day of March, 2002", the figures, letters and words "29th day of February, 2004" shall be substituted.

Section -3 Amendment of section 4

In section 4 of the principal Act, after sub-section (1), the following sub-section shall be inserted, namely: -

(1A) Notwithstanding anything contained in Sub-section (1), the Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and every Member appointed on or after the 16th day of February, 2001, shall hold office for a period not exceeding three years from the date of assumption of his office or up to the 29th day of February, 2004, whichever is earlier.
