Centre for High Technology (CHT)

Introduction

Centre for High Technology (CHT) was established as a dedicated technology cell of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MOP&NG) in 1987 to assess futuristic requirements, acquire, develop and adopt technologies in the fields of refinery processes, petroleum products, work relating to modernisation of technologies etc.

 

CHT was registered as a Society, under Societies Registration Act of 1860, on 09-03-1992.

 

CHT is headed by an Executive Director (ED) and functions under the overall guidance and supervision of the Governing Council (GC) with Secretary, Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India as its Chairman.

 

There is also an Executive Committee to carry out the directions of the Governing Council and for implementing plans and programmes of CHT.

 

All the officers/staff are on deputation to CHT from downstream PSU oil companies, viz., IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, GAIL and EIL or superannuated senior level officers from PSU oil companies as Advisors on contract.

 

The expenditure of CHT is funded through grants from OIDB.

  • Energy Efficiency Improvement
  • Product Quality Improvement and liaison with BIS
  • Co-ordination of activities of Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) on Hydrocarbons of MoP&NG for Promoting Research & Development in Downstream Sector
  • Long Term Strategic Studies
  • Sharing of Best Practices through Activity Committee Meetings on Major Areas of Refinery Operations
  • Information and Knowledge Dissemination through Refinery Technology Meet
  • Technical Support/Assistance to MoP&NG

Activity Committee Meetings

CHT regularly organises Activity Committee Meetings on major areas of refinery operations & pipelines with the aim of sharing of experience and dissemination of information on latest developments. The forum provides an excellent platform for in-depth discussions amongst the working level personnel directly involved in their areas of operations. Besides brief presentation by the members of the Activity Committee, a Question & Answer Session is also held during the meetings for discussions on different queries related to operational performance improvement and best practices.

During Oil & Gas Conservation Fortnight (OGCF) , Centre for High Technology conducts survey in the areas of furnace efficiency and steam leak in alternate years. This years 'Survey will be in the area of "Steam Leaks"
