Received the assent of the Governor of Punjab on the 26th April 1956 and was published in the Punjab Gazette, Extraordinary, dated the 4th May 1956.
An Act to repeal the Punjab Court of Wards Act, 1903 (Punjab Act II of 1903)
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Punjab in the Seventh year of the Republic of India as follow:-
- Short title, extent and commencement. - (1) This Act may be called the Punjab Court of Wards (Repeal) Act, 1956.
(2) It extends to the whole of the State of Punjab.
(3) It shall come into force at once.

Statement of Object and Reasons. - "The Court of Wards Act, II of 1903, was enacted for the sole purpose of protecting big feudal families of social and political importance. With the attainment of independence and the acceptance of socialist ideology in the sphere of administration, the Act is an anachronism. It has, therefore, been decided to repeal this Act. Hence the Bill.

- Repeal of Punjab Act II of 1903.- The Punjab Court of Wards Act, 1903, is hereby repealed.
- Saving.- In any existing law, references to the Court of Wards shall be omitted and nothing in this Act shall affect the previous operation of, or anything duly done of suffered under the repealed Act, or any right, privilege, obligation or liability already acquired, accrued or incurred under the repealed Act or any penalty, forfeiture, or punishment incurred in respect of any offence already committed against such repealed Act.
