Police should protect people but they are assaulting innocents, said the Victims.

Driver of a Senior IPS officer's has been accused of extorting Rs 9,000 from artists Kerala Chende who were in the city to perform at a programme organised by NA Haris Congress MLA.

Haridas and Anup, along with nine others Kerala residents, were in Bengaluru on November 12 to perform at the Shingari Mela programme, but theymissed their train back to their home state.

At around midnight, they could not find a public toilet, so they went to the compound of the Loco Pilot Training Centre and relieved themselves.

Meanwhile State Railway Additional Director General of Police (DGP) Amar Kumar Pandey's drivers Papanna and Vinay Kumar caught hold of them.

He asked them to pay Rs 500 as fine, assaulted them and later even took away Rs 9,000 from them by force.

Haridas later on called 100 and complained. The Patrol Police came and took them to Cottonpet Police station. They later realised that it is the Police officers who assaulted us and stole otheir money.

Later when they were then handed over to the Railway police they complained about this extortion.

Subsequently the two accused returned with some local Kerala residents and tried to return the money, but it was not accepted.

Victims said that the Police should protect people but they are assaulting innocents.

They had received Rs 10,000 for performing at the Shingari Mela programme, but the police snatched that money.

Instead of penalising people for urinating at a forbidden place they assaulted and took money forcibly.
