July 17, 2018:

On Tuesday, Supreme Court while condemning recent Mob Lynching incidents across India, asked Government and Parliament to create law against lynching.

Apex Court Bench headed by CJI Dipak Misra criticised Government for its failure to stop mob lynching incidents.

Bench added that onus lies on both Centre and State Governments to check these incidents and create law against lynching.

CJI Dipak Misra remarked that,"The State is duty-bound to ensure law and order and to prevent mobocracy".

SC Bench stated that mobocracy can't be allowed and has asked the Centre and States to file compliance report on the issue.

Bench added that,"No citizen can take law into their hands. In case of fear and anarchy, the state has to act positively. Violence can't be allowed".

Supreme Court fixed the matter for further hearing on August 28, 2018.
