September 1,2018:

SolarEdge a company which specialises in power optimizer, solar inverters and monitoring solutions for photovoltaic arrays had filed a legal case against Huawei Technologies a Chinese multinational networking, telecommunications equipment, and services company, in the Mannheim District Court, Germany in the month of June 2018.The lawsuit asserted unauthorized use of patented technology, which is prohibited by law and is intended to protect SolarEdge’s significant investment in its innovative DC optimized inverter technology. However, the ongoing lawsuit against Huawei was extended to a German Huawei Distributor by asserting two additional patents related to its power optimizer technology. It has accused Huawei of unauthorized use of patented technology, thereby infringement of the patent.

SolarEdge has invested a significant amount in innovating its DC (Direct Current) optimized inverter technology, along with two other patents related to its power optimizer technology. SolarEdge has also advanced in the limiting PV (Photovoltaic) industry to standard PV (Photovoltaic) systems through the introduction of its innovative DC (Direct Current) optimisation technology, which makes solar energy more attractive and marketable. According to them, the illegal use of intellectual property can affect their share in the market in evolving the solar industry. They claim that the lawsuit protects the integrity of whole PV (Photovoltaic) industry.

SolarEdge demands monetary compensation for all the damages done due to the infringement with regard to the German market. They also want to prevent the sale of any product of Huawei which uses the intellectual property of the former.

However, the Chinese manufacturer denied the claims made by SolarEdge and pointed towards its extensive Intellectual Property and Research and Development (R&D) efforts to support its defence.

In the recent statement given by Huawei on 2nd August which was in response to the latest claim made by SolarEdge, Huawei made it clear that they are still evaluating the said claims; however, they do not believe that their company has infringed any valid patent rights of SolarEdge. In addition, Huawei will take all necessary steps to defend their company and their customers and will take necessary legal action wherever they feel the necessity.
