June 1,2018:

On Friday, Law Ministry has stated that,"A total of 14 judges have been appointed to three high courts in one of the largest sets of fresh nominations in the higher judiciary in the recent past".

Seven Additional Judges were appointed to Madras HC, two have been appointed to Karnataka HC and five judges to the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Approved strength of the Madras High Court is 75, but it is functioning with 56 judges at a shortfall of 19.

Madhya Pradesh High Court is short of 22 judges as its working strength is 31 as against the approved strength of 53.

Approved strength of Karnataka HC is 62, whereas its working strength is 29.

24 HC's in India have an approved strength of 1079, but are doing with 659 judges a combined shortage of 420 as on June 1.
