Through their initiative Rang Badlav Ke, The Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation gave New Delhi's Sanjay Camp a coat of liveliness.
Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation recently flagged off Rang Badlav Ke – Paint the Change, a volunteer and community participation event at Sanjay Camp that aims at mobilizing hundreds of volunteers and artists to give the slum community a vibrant facelift. It attempts at bridging the gaps and increasing community participation by inviting the affluent neighbourhood to contribute in transforming the Camp.
This event is part of Bal Mitra Mandal (BMM), a programme initiated under the aegis of Nobel Peace Laureate Mr Kailash Satyarthi, endeavouring to build child-friendly urban slum communities where every child is safe, free, healthy and educated.
On the occasion, Rakesh Senger, Director, The Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation said that Rang Badlav Ke – Paint the Change is a modest attempt at promoting inclusiveness and community service, “When we looked at Sanjay Camp and its neighbouring areas, we noticed a vast disparity. Our immediate thought: What could be done to brighten this place up? Rang Badlav Ke is that first step towards offering Sanjay Camp residents a strong sense of community. With Diwali around the corner, this is a way of gifting them, especially the children, much-deserved happiness and liveliness. The Camp residents have evinced immense excitement at the prospect of hosting their neighbours with open arms and lively smiles.”
Rang Badlav Ke will be organised on two consecutive weekends – 6 & 7 and 13 & 14 October – in association with Button Mushrooms and colour partner, Shalimar Paints.
“We believe when we interact with people during the event, we are able to break several barriers. We are able to get over the hesitation and so are the people of the slum. It gives a feeling of being united, of being one in what we do. We started painting a picture and they helped us complete it,” stated,” stated Isham Sethi and P.M Shivani, Button Mushrooms.
The event will see students from across schools and colleges, officials from nearby embassies, teachers from the American Embassy School as well as writers and photographers participating in this festival of inclusion. On the concluding day, renowned painter and sculptor Jatin Das will grace the event. The four-day event will witness performances by local bands, adding vivacity to the already-energized atmosphere at the Camp. The activity is open to volunteers, who can sign up for participation on any of the four days.
