Officials, however, denied the charge and countered it with a complaint against the lawyer at the West Agartala police station for ‘disrupting’ an assigned duty for maintenance of law and order.

On Thursday, Lawyers in Tripura went on a strike to protest against manhandling and arrest of their colleague during a raid at the firecracker warehouse on Wednesday night.

At a joint meeting, Tripura Bar Association, High Court Bar Association and Tripura Bar Council adopted a unanimous resolution to carry on with strike till Authorities confirmed the punitive action against the perpetrators.

Advocate Tapan Saha, Former Public Prosecutor of West Tripura Judicial District, alleged that the Senior District officials in the presence of Police humiliated and manhandled him during a raid at a warehouse adjacent to his house.

Based on the complaint, the police detained him and produced him in court. He, however, managed to obtain bail.

Advocate Tapan Saha stated that,“The officials pushed me off the stairs, manhandled me and used filthy language when I tried to approach them to stop using a gas cutter to open the iron shutter to avoid a possible disaster as firecrackers were stockpiled inside the warehouse”.

He sustained injuries to his right hand and right leg. He also registered a complaint at the police station naming a few officials.

Bar Council Chariman,“One individual captured the entire incident on camera…. this was horrific".
