October 22, 2018:

On Monday, Senior Advocate Indira Jaising has decided not to appear on behalf of activist Talib Hussain in the Supreme Court in view of the fresh allegations.

There's fresh trouble brewing for Talib Hussain, the activist who was at the forefront of 'Justice for Kathua Victim' agitation, after another woman levelled rape charges against him. A student of Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), who had invited Hussain to the campus for a seminar, has accused the activist of raping her.

Narrating her ordeal in a news article, the JNU student has alleged that she was raped in a flat in Delhi's Batla House locality. Although, the account by the student doesn't name Hussain, but the reference is clearly towards the activist.

Hussain is currently out on bail for another rape case. He was granted conditional bail by a court in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district on October 12, more than two months after he was arrested from South Kashmir's Tral area for allegedly raping a woman in Samba's Chadwa forest.

Meanwhile, senior lawyer Indira Jaising has decided not to appear on behalf of Hussain in the Supreme Court in view of the fresh allegations against the activist. In a public statement, Jaising said that she was in full support of the #MeToo movement and the allegations made by the JNU student are a sufficient cause for her to withdraw from Hussain's case.

Earlier, Jaising had represented Hussain's relative in the Supreme Court, who had filed a petition alleging that the activist was being tortured in custody by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

On the other hand, no fresh case has been registered against Hussain in light of JNU student's allegations. "We came to know about this matter only through media. No FIR has been filed yet," a top police official said in Jammu.

India Today was unable to contact Hussain despite several attempts.

Hussain shot to prominence earlier this year after he led a stir seeking justice for the Kathua rape victim.
