On Tuesday, the owner of a chawl from Malad has filed a writ petition accusing the officers of P South ward of the BMC of contempt of court after demolition of the structure despite a stay order.
Janardhan Mangesh Sawant, the owner of the chawl in Chincholi Bunder, said that on Saturday, when it was a holiday, the P South ward officer and an executive engineer, whose name he learnt was Narvankar, demolished the 50-year-old structure without giving notice.
Sawant said, “Earlier the BMC had given notice to demolish the chawl, after which we moved the Bombay high court and got a stay until the next hearing, but Narvankar without giving any notice last Saturday demolished the structure."
Narvankar could not be reached for comment.
