In a horrific incident, a group of armed men abducted and gang-raped a law student of a prestigious law university in Ranchi. In raids conducted through Wednesday, Police arrested 12 persons who have confessed to the crime.

The spot from where the woman was abducted is about 8km from the Chief Minister's official residence.

Locality also has the residences of the Director General of Police, Chief Justice of HC and leader of the opposition in the Jharkhand assembly. New police lines is also close to the area.

Police stated that the 25-year-old woman was chatting with her friend near a bus stop at Sangrampur village, 4km from the campus, when two men arrived on a bike and overpowered them at gunpoint and forcefully took the girl with them. 

After driving some distance, when the bike ran out of petrol, the duo called a few of their friends and told them to get a car. They then drove to a nearby brick kiln, where they took turns to rape the woman.

Police further added that the men then called some more of their friends to the spot and they too raped her.

The survivor somehow managed to reach the Kanke police station on Wednesday morning in "a bad physical condition" and lodged an FIR. Police immediately swung into action and arrested the 12 persons, all of them are between 18 and 30 years of age.
