Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde is a former Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court.

President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday nominated Supreme Court Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde as the Executive Chairman of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) with effect from March 7, 2019.

Justice Bobde is the second senior-most judge of the apex court. Bobde was nominated to the NALSA as Justice AK Sikri, current Executive Chairman of NALSA, will retire on Wednesday.

The NALSA was constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, to provide free legal services to the weaker sections of the society & organise Lok Adalats for amicable settlement of disputes.

Section 3(2) of Legal Service Authorities Act, 1987 provides that Chief Justice of India shall be the Patron-in-Chief. & a serving or retired Judge of the Supreme Court nominated by the President, in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, shall be the Executive Chairman.

J. Sharad Arvind Bobde (born 24 April 1956 Nagpur) is a judge of the Supreme Court of India.

He is a former Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court. He is also serving as the Chancellor of Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai & Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur.

He is due to retire on 23 April 2021.

With a tenure of 8 years in Supreme Court of India, he is in line to be Chief Justice of India (with effect from 19 Nov 2019) after superannuation of Justice Ranjan Gogoi.
