The Calcutta High Court bench comprising of Justice Chief Justice Thottathil Radhakrishnan and Justice Arijit Banerjee while dealing with the plea touching upon incidents that have resulted in the death of four persons directed the West Bengal's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit a progress report of the investigation by May 5 into Sitalkuchi, Cooch Behar firing incident, wherein Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel opened fire allegedly after coming under attack from locals.

The allegations in the plea were that the incident was the result of police firing in the course of electioneering. The Court took into account the submissions made by the Advocate General for the State and Additional Solicitor General for the CISF as well as Counsel for the Election Commission of India who stated that two FIRs have been lodged – one at the instance of an officer of the CISF and another at the instance of an individual.

It was additionally presented that both those FIRs have been continued with for examination and now examination was being carried on by the CID of the State of West Bengal. Taking note of the entries, the Court said,

"We anticipate that a statement should be put on record by the CID regarding the advancement of the examination by the following date of hearing."

Lastly, the matter was posted for an additional meeting on May 05

As detailed in the media, four locals of Jor Patki town in Sitalkuchi were murdered in the terminating of the focal powers in West Bengal and one individual was executed by some obscure reprobates while coming out in the wake of making a choice. Further, the Commission had likewise dropped the democratic at the surveying station after the episode and forced a prohibition on the section of government officials into Cooch Behar for 72 hours securing inconvenience, and the matter was dismissed to be heard in the next hearing.
