October 17, 2018:
A First Information Report (FIR) has come to be filed against an unknown person for creating & operating a fake Twitter handle in the name of the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi as per sources.
FIR was lodged after the Special Cell of the Delhi Police received a number of complaints in this regard.
Additional Registrar of Security and Caretaking at the Supreme Court, Colonel GB Marwah brought the fact in notice to the Police.
Col. Marwah detected that the fake Twitter account is not only using CJI Gogoi’s image in the profile, but was also actively using the social media platform to publish misleading information on various issues.
After completing the self-investigation in the matter, Col. Marwah found the Twitter account to be fake & misleading.
He then decided to file a complaint with the Special Cell of the Delhi Police.
Special Cell of the Delhi Police registered an FIR against an unknown person under various provisions of the Information Technology Act.
Police also reportedly reached out to Twitter India to get the fake account suspended.
Police has formed a team to nab the accused in the case and has found that the youth who is responsible for creating this fake account has also created other fake accounts in the past & closed them off lately.
He operates from Western Uttar Pradesh, as told by a Police Official.
Investigation into the matter is being carried on.
