E-filing module for e-filing of cases with e-payment of court fees is ready for all courts across the country.

Already e-filing has been started in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab and Haryana.

Government is set to complete its second phase of ecourts project next year, all District and Subordinate Courts across India will soon have these e-filing facilities where cases will be filed electronically from anywhere in the country.

As part of the e-courts project, the government has set up Judicial Service Centres at more than 16,000 computerised subordinate courts.

These centres are single window for filing petitions by litigants/lawyers, and for obtaining information on ongoing cases and copies of orders and judgments.

A mobile app for e-courts was launched last year, which provides information such as case status and cause list.

Government has activated services providing case information through system-generated SMSs during Phase II.

An allocation of Rs 1,670 crore was made for the second phase of e-courts project and already over 16,000 subordinate and district courts across the country have been computerised and connected with local area network and with the National Judicial Data Grid, where all judgments and case statuses are uploaded on a daily basis.

The e-filing application has been integrated with the unified common software across all district and subordinate courts, according to law ministry.

A pilot project for e-filing was first launched in December 2017 in subordinate courts in Delhi.
