June 19, 2018:

On Tuesday, Supreme Court refused to give urgent hearing on a plea seeking its direction to declare as "unconstitutional" sit-in of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet colleagues inside LG's office in New Delhi.

CM Kejriwal and his Ministers have been staging a sit-in at LG Anil Baijal's Office since June 11 evening to press for their demands, including a direction to the IAS Officers to end their "strike" and action against those who have struck work.

Apex Court's Vacation Bench comprising Justice S A Nazeer and Justice Indu Malhotra submitted the plea would be listed for hearing after Summer Vacation.

Lawyer Shashank Sudhi, appearing for the Petitioner Hari Nath Ram had prayed for an urgent hearing of the plea, submitting that a constitutional crisis has been created due to "the unconstitutional and illegal" protest by CM Kejriwal inside LG's office.

Advocate further submitted that Delhi HC, which had heard the matters on the issue yesterday, has now posted them for hearing on June 22 and that the city is facing an "emergency situation" in which the citizens are facing severe water crisis.

Supreme Court while rejecting the early hearing petition submitted that, it is posting the matter when Court reopens.

Besides seeking declaration of the sit-in as unconstitutional, the plea also sought initiation of perjury proceedings against either the chief minister or the office of the lieutenant governor (L-G) on the ground that one of them is lying.

Delhi High Court  had disapproved the sit-in led by CM Kejriwal at LG's office and asked AAP Government who had authorised such a protest.
