January 08, 2019:

On Tuesday, with the citizenship bill slated to come up in Lok Sabha, the last day of the winter session, the opposition is planning “dramatic” protests in Parliament against the bill being introduced or passed, as numbers are stacked in favour of the treasury benches.

Interestingly, even Shiv Sena, an aggrieved NDA ally, has decided to join the opposition against the bill, while another ally, Prafulla Mahanta’s Asom Gana Parishad — BJP’s partner in Assam — also announced on Monday it was pulling out of the alliance over the bill.

TMC, one of the four parties — Congress, Left and SP being the other three — who submitted a dissent note on the JPC report on the bill, plans to start with a dramatic dharna by its MPs at the Gandhi statue in the Parliament premises on Tuesday.

TMC MP Derek O’Brien said it was opposing the “anti-Bengali” and “anti-citizen” bill.

He said, “It’s the dirtiest politics of polarization BJP is playing by dividing people."
